Netflix for the win: Why we should watch more documentaries

When most people hear documentaries I'm sure it takes them back to your younger years in school watching a boring documentary of World War I or on someone in history who did something great. And while that might interest some, documentaries aren't all snoozes. Like most people, I looooooooove Netflix. Who doesn't? They have unlimited shows and movies for a small fee every month. Netflix is the future of television and I am not upset about it one bit. There is nothing better then being able to sit in bed and watch 13 episodes of Grey's Anatomy simply because it is there and I can.

SO, what does that have to do with documentaries? Have you ever explored that section on Netflix? About a year ago I felt like I wanted to educate myself more on healthy eating and the history of where food has come from and so on. I googled it and to my surprise documentaries featured on Netflix came up. Ever since then, I have been hooked. While we live in a society that loves to eat like shit and then purchase diet plans aka wasting our own money twice over, I wanted to know how for myself at least and clients I could change some bad habits.

Sugar Coated, Forks over Knives and Hungry for Change are just to name a few of the many I have watched, and numerous times. I think we have a tendency to go through our days without questioning things like what are we really eating. It is so interesting to see how something like Coke came about and how they nearly ruled our choices. We are subconsciously purchasing items based on what we see on advertisements and companies like Pepsi, fast food chains and so much more have thrived on this.

With obesity being such an epidemic there are no reasons why we can't be informed of these things, ESPECIALLY when its 1. free, 2. on netflix that everyone is always on and 3. here to better your own life. So I challenge you for the next time you sit down to watch another re-run of Mad Men to switch to something a little different. Give yourself the change and the opportunity to be a better person. Educate yourself to grow your mind and improve your choices!
